Why you shouldn't believe everything you hear
I am incredibly passionate about healing, about our individual and collective ability to heal. We are taught from such a young age to believe that we must work hard, be the most successful version of ourselves possible, always be one step ahead, better than the rest. We are taught that money is success and success is power. To be successful we must work ourselves into the ground proving that we are as good as we are expected to be. Society dictates so much of how we think about ourselves and each other but what about how we think about ourselves. How we really think about ourselves, when we take away the shame, guilt, fear and anger. Underneath it all is a beautiful spirit, filled with love and contentment. We all have the right to experience this, to shed the crud of human life and enjoy our physical bodies and the experience of life whilst we have it. My idea of pleasure used to be working 120 hour weeks, being so stressed out I barely slept, drinking large volumes of alcohol and partying for days on end, but that wasn't pleasure, that was denial, that was hiding from my pain. Pleasure comes to me now in the most simplest of places ; first and foremost in myself and my own body, in stillness, in nature. I no longer shame myself or blame myself and I no longer feel judged, ridiculed or like I have to be working myself into the ground to be a success. I live well, eat well and stay well, which just a few short years ago felt impossible to me.
How Reiki became so much more to me
When I became attuned to Reiki my life changed exponentially. I had started my path of spiritual awakening and had experienced moments of real understanding about who I was, what this all is, our interconnectedness and oneness, but my Reiki attunement took all of that further and connected me to me. To the real me, my truth, my inner voice, my higher being, or any other name we give 'it'. I quickly went from working with Reiki to channeling energy from multiple sources, learning how to play with it and heal with it. I healed myself, my family, my friends and work colleagues, and then I quit my well paid, successful media career to set up Enlightened Life. I had no choice in the matter, I was drawn to it like a moth to a flame and once the idea had formed I had no way to stop it.
We are what we eat
Growing Enlightened Life really was an obvious next step. We are all energy, atoms and molecules in motion, and what we eat, everything we put in our bodies is energy too. As a part of any sensible healing protocol, diet and nutrition must be built into the treatment plan. One of the many reasons I myself became so ill was because I spent much of my life hating food. I had such an unhealthy relationship with it that allowing it into my body took real effort. I spent so long barely eating, living on crumbs, that to change that part of me, to love myself enough to love my body and all that I put into it took great strength, courage and most of all the conviction and sheer determination to heal. At the peak of my illness I was so intolerant all I could eat was frozen white fish and peeled white potato. Only then did I start to appreciate how much damage my emotional energies had caused me for it was these energies that told me I was fat and ugly and therefore that food was the devil. Healing this part of me took great effort and is why I now work alongside a nutritionist to heal all of my clients across all levels of their being. Food is not the devil and we are what we eat. If we eat shit we will feel shit and when we've been through a tough time with illness, disease, addiction, trauma, grief or many of the other human afflictions loving ourselves enough to build ourselves back up with the right food is not an option, it's a must.
